Been doing a lot of work lately to get some stuff off the ground and going.  Creating a show reel has been a high priority.

First commission to produce one comic and two motion comics

This commission was one that I got through the student gems website for students and graduates looking for work/ commission work.  I work for a amazing chap, Mick who represented a charity called sparc who helps kids with learning difficulties.

The brief was to create comic books for these kids and then to turn them into motion comic.  I was ask to create one of the four comics and then to turn two of the comic into motion comics.

 This is page one from the comic that I create call NO TROUBLE DEALING WITH THE LAW.

These are the motion comic that I was ask to do.  The first one is called DIABETES YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR WEALTH, and the second my comic called NO TROUBLE DEALING WITH THE LAW

The first comic was illustrated by Jo Totto (http://thelifeoftotti.com/#/home) and them animated by myself.

The second comic was both illustrated and animated myself.

I decided to keep both comics really simple for two reasons.  (1) so that there wasn't to much going on as the comic was for kids with learning difficulties and I wanted them to focus on the what was being said.  

(2) I did all the animating(if you can call the little movements and panel resizing, animation) in Adobe After Effects sc6.  So my computer is a Dell studio XPS but not a work station and will only render between 7-10 seconds that a time with some effects going on.  So that meant that I could have to much going at anyone time.  Also it only proves how much I need to save for a work station PC with more bit under the hood.

Animatic test

Here are the first animatic test for the the lonely sheep (life of Brian).  They are just test for both the motion and final look of the animation.  I've got to reset the ratio of the screen size but apart from that and adding some more elements, this is some way to how the final animation will look

This one below is the right ratio for the screen size and the one I'll be using.  I may blur the Ram a little more as it may look strange with the firer ball shooting up from behind the haystack.

The final film is of the ram landing which need a lot of to get right.  A lot of squash and stretch with some secondary action, like eye blink and hair moving.

Final test piece for possible job

OK here is the final animation for the Gnu Films test piece that I sent off which I had to republish as a FLV, as the quicklime movie would not upload to Youtube.  That was a problem as I stayed up till about 0630 hours working on this animation.  Not what you want to see after a nap, waking up think that there is no problem.  The only problem with the FLV was that in after effects it compressed the file making the format ratio smaller that the 720 by 556.  Well it's the right ratio just a little smaller but at lest it uploaded to Youtube with no problems.

I use Adobe Illustrator, photoshop, after effects and flash to create this animation, using Illustrator to create all but two of the asset.  I cut the female picture out in photoshop removing the background and publishing it as a PnG file that could then be animated in after effects, using the puppet tool.  The animation of the three chaps round the table celebrating were done in flash.  I know that it was not completely finish but do remember that I was at work over the weekend, and so could not give it the full three days.  That would have been great if I could have put three day into it.  I may have tried some stop motion too.  Final all the assets were put together in after effects, animation and then publish.  I could have done that in adobe premere but I wanted to use the effects in after effects for some of the wheel coming into screen.     

 

Final test piece for possible job

This was a test animatic for a possible job that I applied for with Gnu Films in Nottingham.  I did this just visualize what the final animation world look like from the task that they had sent me.  The test piece was for them to test me and how I preformed when set a task.  On how I could creatively interpret a brief and how I would follow that brief and create an animation.

This animatic didn't take that long after I had a good idea of how I was going to create the animation.  The only problem that I had with this was that it was set over the weekend the only time in the week that I have to work.  Couldn't call in sick as I would run the risk of not getting paid from those evil bastards and until I get paid I really need the money.  





These were all created in flash to save time.

This is my final animation for my end of year show at Birmingham City University. I've been teaching myself how to make armatures and how to use silicone for the body and resin for the replacement facial parts. Learnt a lot from this project and looking forward to the next project.

Show reel 2012

This is my new show reel let me know what you think. It's got all the best parts of my work to date.

These are test working towards My final animation for Level six.

These is my second animation animated in flash and put together in after effects for Level five collaborative project. I worked on the Character animation for all four of the choo choo bar animal characters. I also created the background assets that were then put into after effect with all the other assets that both Steven Clarke and Gareth Hirst work on. We all then work with the assets to create the animation in after effects.

This was my first flash animation for the Level 5 piggy project that I worked on with Richard John Whillock and Claire Hanson. The project was to create a advert for student finance to high light to student the importance of budgeting their money. My part in the animation was to create a concept and animate spending out of control.

The first stop motion short for Level one made with Claire Hanson, Richard John Whillock, Toby Rutter and myself.
